Why is there a Baby Formula shortage

The Baby Formula shortage in 2022 was caused by the closure of the baby formula factory in Wigan.

On May 10th 2022, a fire broke out at the baby formula factory in Wigan. The factory was the only one left open in England, after the previous year’s scandal had caused the other factories to close. The fire caused a huge amount of damage to the building and many people were injured. Due to this, it was decided that there would be no baby formula produced for six months while investigations were carried out and repairs were made.

This meant that mothers with newborn babies had no access to baby formula for over half a year. There were protests outside Parliament, with many mothers expressing their anger at having no access to food for their babies. There was also outrage on social media and many celebrities came out in support of those affected by the shortage.
