The Judds are a country music duo made up of Naomi Judd and her daughter, Wynonna. Naomi was born in Ashland, Kentucky in 1946 and began singing at the age of four. Her mother was a singer who performed on the radio. In 1968, she married Michael Ciminella and gave birth to their daughter Wynonna two years later. The couple divorced in 1972, leaving Naomi to raise their daughter alone.

Naomi moved with her young daughter to Los Angeles where she got a job as a secretary for NBC Studios. She sang during her lunch breaks and eventually met producer Billy Sherrill who signed her to Epic Records as part of the duo The Judds with her daughter in 1983.

The Judds’ first single “Why Not Me” reached number one on the Billboard Country Singles chart and they went on to have more hits including “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days)” and “Love Is Alive”.
