In September 2021, Ronaldo was suspended for a further nine months after he failed a drugs test.

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was suspended for nine months in September 2021 after failing a drugs test. The news came just days after the footballer had been named the world’s best player at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony in Paris. However, it was soon revealed that Ronaldo had tested positive for GHRP-6, which is an illegal substance under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules. This means that Ronaldo will be unable to play until March 2022.

Cristiano Ronaldo had been enjoying a stellar year on and off the pitch before his suspension. The Portuguese forward has enjoyed incredible success with Real Madrid, winning three Champions League titles in as many years with the Spanish giants. He also helped Portugal to win Euro 2020, and finished as top scorer at the tournament with four goals.

However, it wasn’t all good news for Ronaldo in 2021. In July of that year he found himself at the centre of controversy when he appeared to push referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea during Real Madrid’s match against Barcelona at Camp Nou. This led to an automatic four-match ban from La Liga officials and another four matches were added on by FIFA later on.
