Camilla is the Duchess of Cornwall and is Prince Charles’ second wife.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has been a member of the royal family for almost 20 years. However, she still doesn’t have a title and isn’t officially Queen Camilla. So why is Camilla not Queen Camilla?

How long has Camilla been married to Prince Charles?

Camilla married Prince Charles on April 9th 2005 at Windsor Castle in England. The ceremony was the first royal wedding to be held at the castle since that of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten in 1947.

How did Camilla become part of the royal family?

Prince Charles first met Camilla Shand while he was dating her older sister, Lady Sarah Spencer. At this time, Camilla was just 18 years old and had already had an affair with Andrew Parker Bowles, who would later become her second husband.

The couple announced their engagement on July 9th 1973 after meeting again in 1970. They were married on July 4th 1975 at Caxton Hall in London.

The couple went on to have two children together before announcing their separation in 1992.

Following this announcement, it was revealed that Prince Charles had been having an affair with his current wife’s (Camilla) former lover (Andrew Parker Bowles). Following these revelations, Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated.

Princess Diana died tragically in a car accident on August 31st 1997.

On November 8th 2005 it was announced that Prince Charles would marry his long-term partner (and former lover) Camila Parker Bowles – making her the Duchess of Cornwall – but she would not become Queen Consort upon marriage as it was against British law for a monarch to marry a Roman Catholic.
