What does 4/20 mean?

The number 420 has long been associated with marijuana use, but its origins are unclear. It could be a police code for marijuana possession or a number used by students at San Rafael High School in California who used it as a slang term for smoking pot. But no one knows for sure where it came from or what it means. In fact, some people think that 420 was chosen because of its association with April 20th, which also happens to be Hitler’s birthday.

4 / 20 originated in California during the 1970s when high school students would meet after school at 4:20 pm and smoke weed.
Today , thousands of people celebrate on April 20th all over the world.
There are many cities around the world that hold large gatherings on this day , including Denver , New York City , Barcelona , Amsterdam , Toronto and Tokyo .
The first ever 420 rally was held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on April 20th 1990 . Thousands of people attended this gathering and since then many more have followed suit . The biggest gathering takes place in Denver Colorado every year on April 20th.

In 2016 a bill was passed legalizing recreational use of marijuana throughout California . This made California only the 6th state to legalize recreational use of marijuana ( Washington , Oregon , Alaska , Colorado & Nevada ) . On January 1st 2018 recreational use became legal across California making it legal for anyone 21 years old or older to possess up to an ounce of weed . The new law also allows adults 21 years old or older to grow up to six plants at home .
