Why did Boris Johnson resign as Foreign Secretary

Boris Johnson resigned as Foreign Secretary on July 9th, 2019.

In a surprise move, Boris Johnson has resigned as Foreign Secretary. The former Mayor of London and Brexit campaigner was one of the leading voices in the Leave campaign, and was one of the first to throw his hat into the ring for leadership following Theresa May’s resignation. However, he didn’t last long in his role as Foreign Secretary after being accused of being disloyal to Theresa May by his fellow MPs.

The announcement came just hours after Boris Johnson made a speech at the Chatham House think tank in which he said that Britain would “not be bullied” by Donald Trump over Brexit. The US President had previously told Prime Minister Boris Johnson that he would do a “great job” with Brexit and said that there was no reason why Britain should not do a trade deal with America after leaving the EU.

Why did Boris resign?

“I am proud to have served as Foreign Secretary.”

Boris Johnson announced his resignation from Theresa May’s government on July 9th 2019. He had been serving as foreign secretary since 2016 but became embroiled in controversy over claims he lied about meetings with Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s family during her imprisonment in Iran.
