What do you understand by peasant Raj

Peasant Raj is the term used to describe the government of Boris Johnson.

Boris Johnson has been criticised by the Labour Party for failing to fulfil his pledge to build 300,000 new homes per year. The former Mayor of London made this promise in 2012, during his campaign for the Conservative Party leadership. The Prime Minister has failed to keep this promise and instead has overseen a significant drop in home building rates. This is one of many criticisms levelled at Johnson’s government, with Labour referring to it as “Peasant Raj”.

The term Peasant Raj was coined by Shadow Housing Secretary John Healey MP, who said: “The Peasant Raj is back – but this time it’s on our housing estates. Under Boris Johnson we have seen an explosion in social cleansing and a return to the bad old days when private landlords ran roughshod over tenants’ rights.”
