Ed Sheeran has been accused of plagiarising the song “Shape of You” from a Canadian artist.

Popular British singer Ed Sheeran has been accused of plagiarising his hit song “Shape of You” from a Canadian artist. The allegation comes just days after another musician, Marvin Gaye’s family, sued Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke for copying their music. While there is no legal action taken against Ed Sheeran as yet, fans are still wondering how the British star managed to get away with copying the tune.

Who is alleging that Ed Sheeran copied their song?

The allegation against Ed Sheeran was made by DJDS, an electronic music duo from Canada. The duo’s manager, Jordan Schur, posted on Twitter that he had already spoken to representatives of the British singer about his alleged plagiarism. He also posted that he would be taking legal action against Ed Sheeran if he didn’t agree to change some parts of his hit song.

What is being alleged?

“Shape of You” was released in January 2017 and quickly rose to fame on both sides of the Atlantic. However, it wasn’t until DJDS released their single “Dangerous” in June 2017 that people started making comparisons between the two songs. Both songs have similar beats and melodies and many lines are almost identical in both songs.
