Why YouTube is not working in Pakistan

YouTube is not working in Pakistan because of a copyright claim by the Pakistani government, which has blocked access to the site.

YouTube has been blocked in Pakistan for more than a year now. The Pakistani government has been trying to get YouTube to remove videos that are critical of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, but YouTube has refused to do so. This led to a court order that blocks all access to YouTube within Pakistan. In April 2021, it was reported that the ban would be lifted on May 1st, but this didn’t happen.

Why is YouTube not working in Pakistan?

The reason why YouTube is blocked in Pakistan is due to its refusal to take down videos that are deemed offensive by some religious groups within the country. This began when some clips from an anti-Islamic film called Innocence of Muslims were uploaded onto YouTube in 2012. The Pakistani government tried repeatedly to get these videos removed from the site, but they remained up.

YouTube’s policy regarding content removal states: “We review all flagged content against our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.” The company also states that if “the content does violate our policies” then it will be removed.

In addition, Google’s Transparency Report states that between January and June 2018 there were between 1,000 and 10,000 requests for user data from governments around the world. There were also between 1 and 4 requests for user data made by authorities within Pakistan during this time period.
