Why Will Smith is not in Men in Black 4
Will Smith has revealed that he turned down the chance to star in Men in Black 4, and the reason why he did so may surprise you.
In an interview with Variety, Will Smith explained that he didn’t want to star in the movie because it would have required him to return to his hometown of Philadelphia. The actor said that he wanted to take his kids back home with him but felt it would be unfair on them if they had to live there for too long.
“I really had a hard time trying to figure out how we were going to make a fourth one,” Smith said. “So I decided that we were going to do it without me.”
“I told [producer Walter Parkes] I thought we should do it as a prequel,” he continued. “He was like, ‘What? A prequel? How can you do a prequel?’ I said, ‘Well, what if we did something where we start out and I’m already an Agent and my partner is already there — younger — and you meet us as rookies?'”
