Schofield was fired for ‘gross misconduct’ after he asked a guest about her dead son.
Philip Schofield has been sacked from This Morning after asking a guest about her dead son. The presenter, who has hosted the show since 2006, was dismissed by ITV following the incident on Thursday. During a pre-recorded segment on This Morning, Schofield spoke to psychic medium Sally Morgan and asked if she could contact the spirit of her dead son. After telling him that she had received messages from her son, Schofield asked: “Is he cross?”
“He’s like ‘Mum, stop going on about me’. He’s very happy where he is,” Morgan replied.
Following this exchange, viewers complained to Ofcom about “inappropriate” questioning by Schofield and that it was “inappropriate to be speaking to a mother whose child has died in such circumstances”.
According to The Independent, an ITV spokesperson said: “This Morning has taken appropriate action in relation to the discussion between our presenter and guest on Thursday’s show.”
