Why truck driver strike

The UK’s truck drivers went on strike in late 2020, over issues with the new EU emission laws.

Truck drivers across the UK have been on strike since October 27th, following a vote by Unite the Union to go on strike over issues with the new EU emissions laws. The truckers are protesting against what they see as unfair regulations that will mean all trucks will need to be retrofitted with catalytic converters and particulate filters. These new emissions standards will come into effect in January 2022, which is why the truckers are striking now.

These new regulations are part of a broader attempt by the EU to improve air quality across Europe. The government has said that it supports these efforts but has also said that there needs to be some flexibility in how these regulations are implemented and enforced. It has also said that there should be more time given for businesses to make necessary changes.
