The petrol pump strike is over, but drivers still aren’t happy.

A nationwide strike by petrol station staff has come to an end after three days. The staff are unhappy about a change in how the government deals with fuel tax. But drivers say they’re still angry about the disruption.

Why are petrol station staff striking?

“Petrol pumps at garages across the country have been out of action for three days.”

“Staff at 2,000 stations were meant to be taking part in the strike. It’s all over now but it’s caused a lot of anger and frustration for drivers.”

What happened?

The nationwide strike was called by trade union Unite and began on October 24th. Staff walked out over changes made to how fuel duty is paid by businesses and how much money goes back into road repairs. The government says that it’s put more money into roads than ever before, but Unite claims that because of changes made last year, more money is going back into central government coffers rather than being spent on roads.
