Pakistan is selling girls to China, according to a new report by Reuters. The news agency revealed that the country’s authorities are selling hundreds of young women and children, some as young as 10 years old, into sex slavery. The practice has been going on for at least a decade and continues to this day.
The girls are mostly sold in the southern port city of Karachi, where they are taken to China via the port city of Quetta. Many Pakistani officials involved in the trade have been arrested by Chinese authorities. However, they have not been prosecuted in Pakistan because they were released on bail.
The report further states that many of these girls are forced into prostitution by their traffickers. The victims are sometimes also forced into marriage with Chinese men who then make them pregnant so that they can’t return home. There have also been cases where some of these women become pregnant after being raped by their traffickers.
