Why no fans at England v Italy

England v Italy

England and Italy faced off in a friendly at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night, but the game was played in front of almost empty stands. The game was played just two days after England had beaten Iceland 5-1, so many fans were still celebrating their team’s World Cup qualification. As a result, only around 10,000 fans attended the match, leading to an eerie atmosphere at Wembley.

The Football Association (FA) is responsible for booking England’s home matches and it is thought that they are considering moving future friendlies to different venues. This would give them more time to organise ticket sales and make sure that there are enough tickets available for fans.
