A shortage of the formula used to make Nutribun has led to a rise in the price of the meal replacement product.

Nutribun is a brand of meal replacement drink manufactured by the English company, NutriCorp. The drink is designed to replace two meals per day and comes in both liquid and powder form. In recent years, however, there has been a significant shortage of one of the main ingredients in Nutribun – formula.

The reason for this shortage is down to an over-reliance on one particular ingredient – bovine lactoferrin. This ingredient helps give Nutribun its nutritional value, but it’s produced by only one factory on Earth – located in China. In fact, this factory accounts for 90% of all bovine lactoferrin production worldwide.

Bovine lactoferrin is extracted from cow’s milk and it’s what gives cow’s milk its whitish colour. Bovine lactoferrin also has many other uses beyond being an ingredient in Nutribun. It can be used as an additive for cheese and yoghurt products as well as helping prevent bacterial growth in other food products.
