Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.

The origins of Thanksgiving are unclear, with some historians claiming that it began with a harvest feast in 1621. Others claim that the first Thanksgiving was in 1619 when settlers and Wampanoag Indians ate together after a successful harvest. Regardless of where it started, Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. This is because it has been made an official holiday in Canada, the United States and Mexico since the late 1800s, and all three countries share their calendars. The United States’ calendar dates back to 1752 and Canada’s dates back to 1871. Mexico’s calendar dates back to 1884.

Canada chose to celebrate Thanksgiving on a Monday because they wanted their citizens to have more time off work than those in the United States. As a result, Americans usually take off from work on Friday and travel home for the weekend before heading back into work on Monday.
