Novak Djokovic has been banned from entering Australia for three months.

Tennis star Novak Djokovic has been banned from entering Australia for three months. The Australian government said it had cancelled the Serbian player’s visa on character grounds, but did not give details of his offence. It comes after the former world number one was fined £7,600 by a French court for refusing to attend a news conference after losing at Roland Garros in May.

The government did not say why the 32-year-old had been refused entry to Australia, but it is understood he was denied a visa on character grounds. He will be unable to enter the country until early December.

“I am disappointed with this decision,” Djokovic said in a statement. “Australia is one of my most important markets where I have many friends and fans.”

What happened in France?

Djokovic lost 6-1 6-2 to Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros, but refused to take part in a post-match news conference. The Serb said he was “not feeling good” and left the room after only four questions were asked.
