Why is it smoky outside

Smoke from forest fires has blanketed the sky across much of Europe, including the UK.

A haze has settled over much of Europe, and the UK in particular, after smoke from forest fires in northern Europe drifted across the continent. The blazes have caused widespread damage to woodland and farmland in Sweden and Finland. While many people have welcomed the smoky skies for their aesthetic qualities, others are concerned about how it might affect their health.

Where is it smoky?

The smoke can be seen across much of northern Europe. The worst affected areas include Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden. However, a lot of this smoke has been blown towards the UK.
