Greatness is a subjective term that is associated with the great and mighty. In many ways, it’s the kind of greatness that comes with fame and fortune. The idea that greatness comes from being born into wealth and power is one that has persisted throughout history, but it’s not always true. Many people who have achieved greatness in their fields were not born into wealth or power, but they managed to climb to the top through hard work and determination. Some of these people are actually some of history’s most famous figures.

Socrates

Socrates was an Athenian philosopher who lived from 469 BC to 399 BC. He was a teacher who used questioning techniques known as the Socratic method in order to get his students to think critically about what they were being taught. His teachings were so influential on Greek culture that he became widely known as one of the founders of Western philosophy. He also became widely known for his trial and death sentence for corrupting the youth.

Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer whose voyages led him across the Atlantic Ocean to discover America in 1492. His discovery meant that Europeans could begin colonizing America instead of Africa, which had been their focus up until this point.

Mao Zedong

Mao Zedong was a Chinese revolutionary who led the Communist Party in China from 1935 until his death in 1976. He established a socialist state based on Marxist–Leninist principles under which he believed China would become prosperous and powerful.
