Camilla is the Duchess of Cornwall and was married to Prince Charles in 2005.

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla and Prince Charles, are set to be crowned as joint sovereigns of the United Kingdom on January 1st 2022. The news comes as a surprise to many, but the coronation has been in the works for some time. The decision is also likely a response to growing calls for Camilla to take on more official duties after Prince Charles’ abdication.

What is a coronation?

A coronation is an event where a monarch or other royal figurehead is formally crowned. It usually involves some kind of ceremony that marks the official accession of that person. In many cases, this will involve a religious ceremony or other formalities.

What happens during a coronation?

“A procession into Westminster Abbey followed by an interlude in front of the high altar.”

In modern times, it’s common for British monarchs to have two separate crownings. A smaller one takes place at their home church before they are crowned at Westminster Abbey in front of Parliament and other important figures from across Britain.
The first crowning takes place inside St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle with just family members present. This often happens soon after they are born or even before they’re born if they’re expected to ascend the throne.
At their home church, they receive a special blessing from their spiritual leader which signifies that God has approved them as king or queen.
This ceremony used to be held at Westminster Abbey but moved back to St George’s Chapel when Queen Elizabeth I died without leaving any heirs.
Once this blessing has been given by God, it can’t be undone so if something goes wrong with the crowning at Westminster Abbey then it won’t matter because no-one can challenge their claim.
