In a recent essay, author Stephen King said he loves Pakistan. The “I love Pakistan” essay was written for the New York Times and is about his experiences travelling to Karachi. In the piece, King describes his first trip to Karachi in 2011 and the intense heat that greeted him there. He then goes on to talk about how things have changed in Karachi since his last visit, noting that many of the women he saw in 2011 were now wearing hijabs. In fact, he describes how some of them were even covered from head to toe.

King also discusses how much safer it felt when he was in Karachi this time around. He says that people are friendlier now and many of them want to practice their English with him. As someone who has lived all over the world and travelled extensively, King says that it is easy for foreigners like himself to be “spoiled” by their travels because they don’t often experience hardship or poverty while they are abroad.

While King did enjoy his time in Karachi this time around, there was one thing about the city that made him uncomfortable: the littering.
