The social media site Reddit has blocked several accounts for violating its content policy.

Reddit has blocked several accounts for violating its content policy, the social media site announced on Thursday. The banned users include an account that was previously associated with Russia’s Internet Research Agency, a troll farm accused of attempting to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Reddit said in a blog post that it banned 944 accounts that it believed were linked to the IRA and that were caught “in the act” of posting propaganda on other platforms. The company also banned an additional 235 accounts “suspected of being Russian trolls,” according to the post by Reddit chief technology officer Christopher Slowe.

“We have investigated a number of suspicious accounts this week and suspended multiple behaviorally-abnormal accounts,” Slowe wrote in the post. “We are continuing to investigate behaviors that violate our policies and will take action against those who abuse our systems.”

What is Reddit?

Reddit is a popular online forum where users can share links or images and discuss them in threads known as subreddits. While most of these forums are devoted to specific topics such as movies or video games, some subreddits have been accused of being breeding grounds for racism or hate speech.
