The Labour MP is known for his penchant for cooking

Mr Nath is a Labour Party politician and has been the Member of Parliament for Brent North since May 2020. He is also known for his love of cooking, which he’s often seen sharing on social media. But why does Maya think Mr Nath is a cook?

Who is Mr Nath?

Mr Nath was born in 1970 in Kenya and moved to London when he was 13 years old. He attended the University of East London where he studied politics and sociology, graduating with a first class degree. After university, Mr Nath worked as a youth worker in the East End before becoming an advisor to former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone.

What has Mr Nath done?

Mr Nath was elected as Member of Parliament for Brent North in May 2020, taking over from Andy Slaughter who had held the seat since 2010.

In June 2021, it was announced that Mr Nath would be taking over from Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party following his resignation after losing support from within his own party.

He has also been made Minister for International Development by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and will attend Cabinet meetings.

He said: “I am honoured to have been appointed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson to serve as minister for international development.”

In October 2021, Mr Nath announced that he would be standing down as leader of the Labour Party following accusations that he had not done enough to stop Boris Johnson’s rise to power. He said: “It’s become clear that I cannot both meet my duties as leader of the opposition and serve my constituents properly while being accused by so many people without evidence.”

In November 2021, Mr Nath announced that he would be stepping down from parliament at the next election after being accused by MPs on all sides of not doing enough to stop Boris Johnson’s rise to power.

The Brent North MP says there are ‘many talented people’ who could replace him but admits it will be ‘a tough job’.

In January 2022, The Sunday Times revealed that although there were no allegations against him personally regarding sexual misconduct or abuse during his time working with children at Tower Hamlets Council between 1996 and 2002 – allegations had been made against two other members of staff during this time.
