President’s Day is a holiday celebrated in the United States on the third Monday of February each year.

The United States federal holiday is known as Washington’s Birthday, and celebrates the birthday of George Washington, who was born on February 22nd 1732. The President’s Day holiday was first celebrated in 1879, although it wasn’t until 1971 that it became a federal holiday. The day has also been referred to as Washington and Lincoln Day.

The first President’s Day celebration took place in New York City in 1879, with parades held throughout the city. In 1885, President Grover Cleveland signed legislation officially establishing the observance of Washington’s Birthday as a national holiday. Since 1971, most state governments have moved to call the day Presidents’ Day.
