What is a Tusken Raider?

Tusken Raiders are an alien species native to the planet of Tatooine. They have been present on the planet since before recorded history, but it wasn’t until the rise of Jabba the Hutt that they began interacting with other lifeforms on their home world. The first recorded contact between humans and Tusken Raiders was in 1000 BBY, when a group of settlers attempted to colonise Tatooine. The settlers were attacked by Tuskens, who killed them all and took their belongings.

Why do Tusken Raiders wear masks?

The name “Tusken Raider” comes from “toska”, which means “pain” in Russian. In this case, it refers to pain caused by extreme heat. As such, many members of this species cover their faces with masks when venturing out into the desert climate that dominates most of Tatooine.
