Why Boris Johnson resigned

Boris Johnson has been Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since July 2016.

Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on October 27th, 2021. This came just hours after he was asked to do so by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson. The pair led a no confidence vote in Boris Johnson’s government after he was accused of multiple counts of misconduct and corruption by Tory MP Simon Williams. In his resignation speech, Boris Johnson apologised to the nation for his actions and thanked them for their support over the years.
