The UK government has announced that flags will be flown at half mast to mark the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Flags across the UK will be flown at half mast today to mark the 17th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The UK government has announced that all flags on government buildings will be lowered, including those at Buckingham Palace, 10 Downing Street and Westminster Abbey. In a statement released on September 10th, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “I am proud to lead a country that is not afraid to show its respect for those who have given their lives in service of others.”

Flags were also lowered in New York’s Times Square and on top of One World Trade Center. However, President Donald Trump has not issued an official proclamation for flags to be flown at half mast today. According to Fox News, he said: “We mourn those lost in this senseless attack, and stand together in solidarity with the City of New York and our brave first responders.”
