The death of Selena Quintanilla Perez shocked the world in 1995.
On March 31st, 1995, Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla Perez was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar, the president of her fan club. The two had been having a feud over the direction of Selena’s career and personal life for some time. Saldivar became jealous when she saw Selena with another man and threatened to kill her if she didn’t leave him. After years of threats, Saldivar took action on March 31st by shooting Selena five times at a Days Inn hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas. She died on April 1st at a local hospital.
Saldivar was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. She is currently serving her sentence at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville, Texas.
