Indian politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a road rage case. The former cricketer was questioned by police on October 27th, after being accused of hitting a 65-year-old man with his car and injuring him. Sidhu is currently a member of the Indian National Congress party and is married to the state’s Chief Minister, Amrinder Singh’s daughter. This isn’t the first time that Sidhu has been involved in controversy, so here’s why he was jailed.
Who is Navjot Singh Sidhu?
Navjot Singh Sidhu is an Indian politician who served as a member of parliament from Amritsar between 2004 and 2014. He later resigned from his position as the Punjab cabinet minister for local government and tourism to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2016. In 2017, he rejoined the Congress party and became its president in Punjab. He has also been an active member of many charities over the years, including being part of a campaign to raise awareness about depression.
What happened to Navjot Singh Sidhu?
On October 27th, police detained Sidhu at Patiala House Court after he was accused of causing injuries to 65-year-old Gurmeet Singh with his car while driving under the influence of alcohol on September 7th. The politician denied all charges against him during questioning but was sent to Tihar Jail on judicial remand until November 1st.
