What is Mahashivratri?

Mahashivratri means “the great night of Shiva” and refers to the time when Lord Shiva performed his greatest act: creating time itself. It’s said that he created time by dancing so wildly and violently that he caused a tear in space-time, thus creating all other universes besides our own.
