Women are killing more people than ever before, and the number of women in prison is rising.
Women are increasingly taking the lives of others, with a rise in the number of female murderers over the last decade. In 2016, 536 women were sentenced for murder or manslaughter, up from 473 in 2006. There has also been a rise in the number of women behind bars: In 2006 there were just under 3,000 female prisoners in England and Wales. By 2016 this had risen to almost 4,000.
