Netflix’s new documentary series Women Kill examines the shocking rise in female murderers and why women are now responsible for more homicides than ever before.
The series explores the reasons behind the increase in female murderers, examining the unique circumstances that led to their crimes. Women Kill is a four-part documentary series that follows the lives of five women who killed, including Jodi Arias, who was convicted of murdering her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in 2013. The other women profiled include Leanna Laney, a mother convicted of killing her three children; Joanna Dennehy, a serial killer who murdered three men; and Amy Boyer, who shot her husband in cold blood.
In 2018, there were over 1.5 million violent crimes committed by men across America. In comparison to this number, just under 500 murders were committed by women. However, these numbers have been rising steadily since the 1990s and this year’s figures are set to be even higher than last year’s.
