Why wikipedia banned in Pakistan

Pakistan’s top court has banned Wikipedia in the country.

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has banned the website Wikipedia in the country, according to a report by Dawn. The order comes as a response to Wikipedia’s refusal to remove content related to an individual that was deemed offensive. The court has also ordered Pakistan’s internet regulatory authority, PTA, to block all access to the website within 24 hours.

What is the Pakistan Supreme Court?

The Supreme Court of Pakistan is made up of a number of different judges, who are appointed by the President of Pakistan. It is responsible for ensuring that all laws and regulations are upheld and enforced within the country. This means that it acts as a check on parliament, which makes new laws and amendments.

Why did it ban Wikipedia?

The ban was issued after PTA refused to block access to specific pages on Wikipedia due to legal concerns over freedom of speech. According to Dawn, PTA had previously blocked specific pages relating to an individual who was convicted for blasphemy against Islam in 2017. However, they were later forced by court order in 2018 to unblock those pages after they were found not guilty of blasphemy charges.
