Lohri celebrations are held in Punjab (the state in northern India where most Punjabis live) and involve firework displays and bonfires. People gather around the fire to sing songs about harvest festivals from their childhoods or Punjabi folk songs about winter. They also eat traditional foods such as sarson ka saag (a dish made with mustard leaves), rotis (bread), makki di roti (flatbread made from corn flour), sevian (small yellow dumplings), gatte ki sabzi (mashed potato curry), kheer (rice pudding) and pakoras (vegetable fritters). During this time, people also take part in kite flying competitions.
