The Indian Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year to commemorate the raising of the Indian Army in the pre-independence era. The day marks a number of significant events, including the commencement of World War I and India’s participation in it, as well as the creation of two new divisions for internal security duties during World War II. The day also commemorates India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971 and its freedom from Pakistan’s colonial rule. The day is also a celebration of one million army personnel who have laid down their lives for their country.
