Suella Braverman, MP for Fareham, was sacked as a PPS in November 2020.

Suella Braverman was sacked as a Parliamentary Private Secretary in November 2020 after she refused to apologise for comparing Boris Johnson to Donald Trump. The Conservative MP had told Sky News that the PM should “apologise” for failing to stand up to the US President over his comments on Saudi Arabia. She also said that Mr Johnson had shown “weakness” and “a lack of leadership”. Her comments were made just days after the President caused outrage by claiming that Prince Mohammed bin Salman may have known about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Ms Braverman’s dismissal came just hours after she wrote an article for The Sunday Times saying Mr Johnson should not apologise for speaking out against Donald Trump’s remarks about Saudi Arabia. In her article, Ms Braverman said: “If we are going to achieve a better future we need leaders who are willing to take on this president and others like him around the world.”

“Theresa May’s failure last week to condemn his latest misogynistic insults towards women politicians across Europe shows weakness from our prime minister and a lack of leadership. Instead of apologising, she should be standing up against this president’s behaviour.”
