Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was arrested at a protest outside of the offices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New York City on Monday, according to the New York Daily News. The freshman congresswoman was among a group of protesters demonstrating against the treatment of migrants at ICE detention centers. The protest was organized by Occupy ICE NYC, which is calling for the abolishment of ICE.
According to the Daily News, Ocasio-Cortez “was among dozens who sat down in front of an entrance to the building” and refused to move when police told them to do so. She was one of two people who were arrested after they continued protesting.
