Virat Kohli was ruled out of the match due to a shoulder injury.

Virat Kohli was ruled out of the third Test against England after suffering a shoulder injury during training on Thursday. The Indian captain will be replaced by Ajinkya Rahane, who has been named as his replacement for the match at Old Trafford. Kohli was taken for scans on Thursday morning and it was confirmed that he had suffered a sprain to his right shoulder. The BCCI released a statement saying that Kohli would not be able to play in the match, but did not give any indication as to how long he would be out for.

Kohli’s absence is a huge blow for India, who are currently 1-0 down in the five-match series. They were beaten by eight wickets in the second Test at Lord’s and will now have to do without their star batsman if they want to level up the series. It is not yet clear how long Kohli will be out of action for, but he could potentially miss all five matches if his recovery takes longer than expected.
