Why Turkey Earthquake

The 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Turkey is the strongest to hit the country since 1999.

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake has struck in the north-west of Turkey, killing at least one person and injuring more than 200 others. The earthquake struck at 9:41pm local time on October 26th, with its epicentre near the city of Van. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said it was a shallow quake that struck just six miles below the surface.

What caused this earthquake?

There are several factors that can cause an earthquake, including shifts in tectonic plates beneath the Earth’s surface and seismic waves from other earthquakes elsewhere in the world.

What happened after this earthquake?

Following this major earthquake, there have been several aftershocks as well as a second quake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale.
