The government has not yet responded to the calls for a price cap on petrol.

There are calls for the government to implement a price cap on petrol following a spate of strikes by fuel tanker drivers. As of early October, there have been three days of strikes, with another one planned for October 10th. The first strike was called by Unite the Union and saw workers in England and Wales walk out at the start of September. The second strike was announced on September 26th and saw drivers in Scotland also down tools. This time, it was the turn of Unite members in England and Wales to strike.

The latest announcement came from Unite on October 9th, when it said that members in Scotland would join them in striking again from October 10th.

As well as protesting about low wages, strikers are demanding an end to driver-only trains and for more staff to be employed by train companies.
