Sri Lanka was banned from the ICC in June 2022, after failing to meet the minimum standards required by the ICC.

In 2022, Sri Lanka was banned from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for failing to meet the minimum standards required by the ICC. The ban meant that Sri Lanka could not play any international cricket until they met these minimum standards. The ban came into effect on June 15th, 2022 and was lifted on September 12th, 2023. This means that Sri Lanka were able to play international cricket from September 12th, 2023 onwards.

What is a cricket ban?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is an organisation that controls and organises international cricket. It also makes sure all of its members meet certain requirements so they can be allowed to play in international competitions such as World Cups or World T20s. If a member fails to meet these requirements, they can be banned from playing in any of these competitions.

Why was Sri Lanka banned?

Sri Lanka had been warned several times by the ICC about their slow over rate. This means that players took too long to complete their overs during matches. However, despite these warnings, Sri Lanka continued with their slow over rate and were eventually banned for it.
