President Donald Trump was not invited to the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May 2021. The US president has been a vocal critic of the British monarchy, but his lack of invitation is also likely due to the fact that he has been declared persona non grata in England. Although this is one of the first instances of a US president being banned from entering England, it’s actually not that uncommon for people to be banned from visiting or living in the country. Here are some notable people who have been banned from entering England.

In April 2020, a petition calling for Donald Trump to be banned from visiting Britain reached more than 1 million signatures. In response, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he would “certainly” ban President Trump if he were elected Prime Minister (via CNN) and would also push for an outright travel ban on all Americans.

While it might seem like an extreme measure, banning foreign nationals isn’t entirely uncommon in Britain. In fact, there are several people who have been banned from visiting or living in England at some point over the years. These include high profile figures such as former President George W Bush and former Prime Minister Tony Blair (via The Guardian).

One person who is still banned from entering England is Australian author Germaine Greer (via The Guardian. She was barred entry into Britain back in 2015 due to her history of making comments about transgender women which were deemed as transphobic by British officials.
