The revelation came after the actress, who is best known for her role as Niobe in the Matrix trilogy, shared a throwback photo of herself with her daughter Willow Smith on Instagram. In the photo, Jada is seen wearing a black and white striped shirt and long braids, while Willow has short hair.
While many fans assumed that Jada’s hair loss was due to alopecia or some other form of illness, the actress confirmed that it was actually caused by traction alopecia. Traction alopecia occurs when people pull on their hair for long periods of time or wear tight hairstyles. As the name suggests, this type of hair loss is most common among African Americans who wear their hair in styles such as cornrows or dreadlocks.
