Will Halstead has left Chicago Med to start a private practice with April Kepner.
Dr. Will Halstead, played by Nick Gehlfuss, is leaving Chicago Med for good after season 5. He will be replaced by a new character named Dr. Kieran Campion (played by Rob Lowe). The news was announced at the 2019 Winter TCA press tour on January 6th.
Will is leaving Chicago Med to start a private practice with April Kepner, played by Sarah Drew. This means that he will no longer be working at the hospital, but his exit will still be featured in the final episodes of season 5.
What happened to Will Halstead?
Will was first introduced in season 1 as a surgical resident at Chicago Medical. He started out as an arrogant and self-centered character who only cared about his career and not much else. Over time, he became more compassionate and caring towards others.
