Velma Black is a fictional character in the “Scream” series. She was played by actress Gail Bean in the first two films, and then by actress Judyann Elder in the fourth and fifth installments. Velma is one of the main characters of the franchise, along with Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Dewey Riley (David Arquette). Velma was created by Kevin Williamson for his 1996 film “Scream”. She is a reporter for the fictitious television show “Today’s Top News”, but she has an affair with her boss, which leads to her being demoted to working on the show’s gossip column. Velma was supposed to be killed off early on in “Scream 2”, but Williamson decided to keep her alive because he liked her character so much.

Velma made it all the way through “Scream 4”, but she had an affair with her boss, who also happens to be married. The affair caused tension between her and her co-worker, who just happened to be his wife. The tension led to him firing Velma from her job at Today’s Top News, which led to them getting into an argument that ended up with him falling down some stairs and dying from his injuries.
