The Farmers Market, located in Los Angeles, California, is the most popular farmers market in the state. The market was founded by Frank Dekle Sr. and his wife Ruth Dekle in 1934. The market is open every Wednesday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Farmers Market has been a staple of Los Angeles since it opened its doors 80 years ago. Today, it attracts over 1 million visitors each year and features over 150 local vendors.

Why does the Farmers Market start on Wednesdays?

Before 1934, there were no markets that sold fresh produce on a regular basis. This changed when Frank Dekle Sr., an engineer by trade, noticed that residents had to travel far distances to get fresh produce at the grocery store or farmer’s markets outside of town.

“I saw people coming into town with bags of vegetables they had bought out of town,”

“They were paying as much as two dollars for a bag of vegetables that they could have gotten here for 25 cents.”
