Why is Splash Mountain closing

Disney’s Splash Mountain is closing for a major refurbishment in 2021.

Disney’s Splash Mountain is one of the most iconic rides in the whole of Walt Disney World, but it will be closing in 2021 for a complete refurbishment. The ride will reopen with new scenes and audio-animatronics to bring it up to date, but no word yet on whether the famous log flume will be getting a new name. It’s not yet clear how long the ride will be closed for, but it is likely to reopen sometime in 2022.

The closure was announced by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Bob Chapek at D23 Expo 2019 on August 23rd. He also confirmed that Disneyland Paris would also be receiving an update around the same time as its American counterpart. The theme park is expected to remain open during this time.
