Russia’s attack on the Ukraine has been called the “worst crisis in Europe since the Cold War.”

Russia’s annexation of Crimea and subsequent military action in eastern Ukraine has been called the “worst crisis in Europe since the Cold War.” The conflict began in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea following a referendum that was deemed illegal by Ukraine and Western nations. Russian-backed separatists then declared independence from Ukraine, leading to an ongoing war that has left more than 10,000 people dead.

Since then, Russian President Vladimir Putin has continued to push for greater influence over eastern European countries, including Moldova and Georgia. Putin has also come under fire for interfering with elections across Europe, including those of France and Germany.
