Australia’s longest-running soap Neighbours is coming to an end. The show has been on air since 1985 and will have screened 6,400 episodes by the time it finishes in June 2022. Its final episode will be broadcast on Eleven in Australia and Channel 5 in the UK. Executive producer Jason Herbison said the decision to end the show was made last year and that he had mixed feelings about it.

“We thought long and hard about it,” he told ABC News. “It’s a very bittersweet moment for us because we’re not happy about saying goodbye to our audience, but we are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.”

Neighbours has always been popular with viewers but suffered a dip in ratings last year after being moved from its traditional timeslot of 7pm.
